This page will have beautiful wolf pictures and links that I think are due some comment.

I must admit I am a bleeding heart where animals are concerned.
I am grateful for my very good Cyber Sister Kay McLemore a rancher in the northwest for her very level perspective on both sides of the wolf issue.
Aside from being a wonderful person and friend she has given me much food for thought.
Thank You Kay....I love you!

I on the other hand am from a large city that is near desolate mountain areas...
people are moving to these mountains more and more...
native to those mountain areas is the big cat (mountain lion, puma, cougar)...
the fish and game are ever trying to control the deer and big cat....
Not a successful endeavor from my point of view
should we be surprised when a mountain lion strolls into your backyard to eat you or your pet after you have plunked your house in the middle of his territory?
What is the solution for this problem?
Should we kill the animals of the world because they do what is natural for them?
Should we kill animals because they encroach on what we now consider our plot of land?
Somehow I can't see that killing is the proper solution.

As mentioned before:
Sen. LeRoy Stumpf, DFL-Thief River Falls, plans to introduce two bills to control wolves, one giving the state Department of Natural Resources the authority to manage wolves. He is considering several different methods of population management that would involve citizens being able to hunt or trap wolves.
Here is Kay McLemore's letter to the Senator:
|
Dear Senator Stumpf: It is my understanding that you are actively involved in the introduction of legislation to manage wolf population in the United States in such a manner as to allow them to be hunted and/or destroyed. I truly hope that this is misinformation and that neither you nor any other official elected to the Senate would pursue such a negligent endeavor. I fail to see how any such action would offset the poor handling by our government of the efforts to relocate wolves to Yellowstone and to Idaho. Although well intentioned, that plan was poorly executed. However, it is the execution of plans to help improve the wolf's survival that must be attempted... NOT execution of the wolf breeds.
![]() As ranchers, we are not oblivious of the concerns for livestock; however, by taking prudent precautions it is possible to live in harmony with the wolf. Perhaps wild animal management efforts would better be aimed at bears, if a wild animal cause is sought. Wild wolves do not attack, maim and kill healthy campers in the pursuit of experiencing the joys of nature. Bears do. And bears do not attack and/or kill people solely driven by hunger. They do so due to aggressive natures. Are you aware that in some areas of our government lands and parks it is illegal to harm a bear even in self defense of your life? That is not an issue with wolves. There is not one documented instance of a wolf killing a human being in the United States in the past 200 years. It is an unusual year when that can be said of bears. Where are YOUR priorities?
![]() Your response in support of your interest in this issue, should you be actively engaged in the furtherance of the mismanagement of wolves to the extent of reducing their numbers, is invited.
Sincerely, |
What a great letter I applaud you!!

Dear Joe, I was sent your article about the Wolf Activists. In reading it at first I thought it was just one of the silly postings to a bulletin board but as I read on I realized it was a silly posting in the newspaper and on top of that by someone who is suppose to be a professional writer. Let me start out by saying I am a staunch conservative, and what does that have/not have to do with wanting to preserve the wolf?....I am a mother, grandmother and not a member of the Sierra club....tho I do live quite close to the Sierras.
![]() I venture to say this whole problem is caused by man and his egotism......always wanting more...be it land...money or power...we (white man) has moved into the territory that was first the wolf and American Indians land.....we in our egotism think that whatever we do is OK especially if we gain land money or power......sorry I don't buy that. I can only wonder what you would do if a power stronger than us came to your town......surrounded it and took pot shots at your family and food supply....what would you do after many years of having less and less space and food? I can tell you what I would do. And that is surprisingly just as the wolf does ....the best it can under the circumstance.
![]() However the real truth is I would do my best to destroy the invader...if you would do less then I am sorry for you. We are always trying to adjust things in nature.....why?...again because of greed, power, and money.....we control the deer, the moose, the coyote, the wild cats....and whatever we think we can.......while as fast as we can are destroying our planet. I have a solution. For the people who must hunt animal (anything other than human) Sell them their license........ahh but the rules of the game are you can only be armed with a sling shot and perhaps a knife. It makes me laugh to think how many brave hunters there might be out there with those guidelines......and of course those who took up the challenge would truly be brave hunters would they not? Man kills wantonly because he can and has the means......not out of necessity. Show me a hunter who kills for other than survival and I will show you a man/woman with a character flaw...and that my good man is a benchmark.
![]() Man has caused this problem....unfortunately man is not elevated mentally or spiritually enough to solve it without killing....and that is what is truly sad.....not for the wolf but for us (mankind) Linda |
