Cat Wisdom:
"Some people say that cats are sneaky, evil, and cruel.
True, and they have many other fine qualities as well."
~~Missy Dizick~~

Meet Miri
She is the little spotted one in the middle.

Miri is my second favorite cat.
Its hard to say that when you are a cat lover and love about all cats on the planet ... but if you have a few like I do you will know what I mean.

This one displays cat character better than any of my cats.
When she wants your attention SHE GETS IT.
When she does not ... FORGET YOU!

At this very moment Miri is having one of her "I Love You Mom" moments.
As I was concentrating on writing this page she walked over and stuck her head beneath my hand raised up and goes MEOWW. Of course the mouse fly s in one direction and this page ends up with a line of gibberish that only a cat could decipher.

So I drag out my digital camera which is never far away and snap a shot or 2.
At this point in her story it should be clear why I have tons of shots of Miri.

Miri is the only cat I have that is not a stray.
She was sent to me by Nikki Martin of WildTalk.
One day as Nikki and I were talking on the phone she said "I have a cat that wants to be a movie star. She needs a home in California close to Hollywood. She has packed her bikini and sunglasses and is headed your way."
After a few no I can't s, a well maybe, and then, a OHHH alright!
Miri boarded her American Airlines flight in Chicago and arrived about 8 p.m. that evening in the Fresno airport.

The whole airport was aware of her arrival.
Out of that small cat carrier was coming the loudest continuous MEOOOOOW! I had ever heard from such a little cat.
She was already center stage and she had only been in town less than 10 mins.
She immediately drew the attention of 3 very young bored and unruly children who were forced to meet incoming relatives and wait for luggage to be unloaded. This tiny carrier with a very large voice had three little children sitting around it in utter silence for a moment. Where was the old digital when that Kodak moment occured?

The Meoooow never stopped. We (one of my grandsons Garret was with me) walked to the car ... got into the car and were half way home when all of a sudden we heard a MEOOOooow ... then blessed silence. After a moment Garret said "Do you think her battery ran down?"

When we arrived home I sat the carrier in the middle of the living room and of course Beau and Jz were on the spot to see what all of this commotion was about. I opened the door to the carrier and out dashed this little fur ball ... no more cat carrier for her. She looked around the room, saw Beau and dashed right up to him and stuck her nose right in this long fur. He was so startled he backed up and she followed. It was love at first sight and still today she loves to see him.

This is what stepped out of the carrier that night.

Miri is a Pixie Bob.
She has this little bob tail and is always straight up in the air and ever switching.
When she and Hopei run and play she fluffs it up and it looks like a very fat bottle brush.
That first night Miri slept cuddled by my neck and her little motor would rev up when I moved. That was the last nite Miri purred loud enough for anyone to hear. Nikki and I always joked that I had a mega law suit against American Airlines for breaking her purr on her trip from Chicago. Needless to say that is the only thing quiet about Miri. Even today she has a very piercing Meooow that reverberates thru the house when she wants something.

As any of you who have spent much time on my site probably know we also have a resident Doberman named Lisa.

Now Lisa came to us when she was suppose to be 8 weeks old ... I think she was lucky to be 6 weeks old ... to make a long story short from that very young age when puppies think cats are objects to chase, bark at and generally aggravate and said cats get fed up and beat the crap out of this obnoxious dog ... that impression of a 22 lb black devil cat suddenly transforming into a baseball bat and the 8 lb puppy being the baseball whacked against the kitchen cupboard with a thud and yelps that were far worse than the thud. Was an impression Lisa never forgot. Today at 78 lbs somehow she still does not know she is wayyyy bigger than those cats ... so she treats them with mucho respect.

Lisa was about a year old when Miri came to stay. This very fast little speed ball was a wonderful toy to Lisa. Miri was not the least bit frightened of the dog ... perhaps because she too has been raised with a Doberman named Sebastian. I was not to sure so I kind of kept a watchful eye just in case.

Now for some reason Miri is a water lover ... and for some unexplained other reason the toilet bowl seemed to hold a real fascination for her ... she and Lisa learned to play tag. She was so small and so fast that Lisa was always in the rear ... the cat was coming while the dog was still going. One morning I was in my office working on my computer. I could hear the 2 of them racing thru the bedrooms and the hall ... then all of a sudden I heard a really pissed off meow and hiss and spitting. I jumped up and ran toward the noise thinking perhaps the dog had discovered she was 78 lbs and the cat was dinner ... from the sound ... it was dinner with a fight. I entered the hallway just in time to see the dog with the cat in her mouth ... she set her on the tile floor of the bathroom. That tiny fur ball was gone in a flash and what was left was a very wet trail of puddles. Miri had fallen into the toilet bowl and the dog had rescued her ... this was only the first of our Miri cat antics.
